Shang Salah is a Kurdish-Iraqi filmmaker, researcher, and artist. She directs, creative produces, and edits documentaries, editorials, music videos, and short films. Her directing and producing approach brings in research-focused narratives and non-traditional editing techniques.
Her artistic work uses observational photography, videography, archives, and intricate post-production techniques to create dream-like, non-linear imagery applications. Her art bases itself on her Kurdish and Arab identity, her Iraqi nationality, studies of memory, and the chaos of young adulthood.
With a background in film and TV, Shang uses experimental art practices to share emotions that linear traditional narrative video and photography won't be able to capture. Her work is intentionally raw and unorganized to capture a distinct intimacy and realness within memory and identity.
