My full name is Shang Salah Noah Almala Khidhir (or Shang Salah as I call myself for short). I am a Kurdish-Iraqi filmmaker, content creator, researcher, and artist.
I work between nonscripted and creative production, digital content, and formal research. I direct, creatively produce, and edit documentaries, editorial, shorts, and social videos. My directing and producing approach brings in research-focused narratives and non-traditional editing techniques.
My more personal and artistic work uses observational photography, videography, archives, and intricate post-production techniques to create dream-like, non-linear imagery applications. My art is informed by my Kurdish and Arab identity, my Iraqi nationality, studies of memory, and the chaos of young adulthood.
With a background in film and TV, I use experimental film and research practices to share emotions that linear traditional narrative video and photography won't be able to capture. My work is intentionally raw to capture a distinct intimacy and realness within memory and identity.
